Book Your Dental Checkup Today
Do you only visit the dentist when you need a filling or are in pain? Here’s why having a routine dental check-up is so important in maintaining a healthy mouth!
Fun Fact: Do I Need To See My Dentist Every 6 Months?
“See you 6 months later!” Ever left your dental appointment wondering what’s the science behind the number 6?
THE ANSWER
Well, truth be told, there actually isn’t a ‘one-recall-fits-all’ protocol proven to work for all patients. The reason is because every mouth is unique, and how often a patient should be seen is closely related to his risk for dental health issues. According to the UK National Institute for Health and Care Excellence, a risk-based approach should be used to tailor patients’ recall intervals. For instance, a patient with frequent new carious lesions or uncontrolled gum disease may need recalls every 3-4 months, whilst a patient with a sweet tooth but no new carious lesions can afford a longer recall period of 6 months. But one thing is for sure, regular dental visits are vital in monitoring your oral health and ensuring a healthy smile!
WHAT’S DONE AT A CHECKUP VISIT?
During a dental check-up visit, our dentists are trained to spot early signs of dental disease and check on existing fillings or dental work. This is also your chance to ask us any burning questions you may have about the mouth: like is flossing once a day really necessary? (Yes, it is.)
Routine radiographs may also be taken to help give a clearer picture of your dental health. This means you don’t need to wait for a tooth to start hurting before getting treatment and it allows for a more conservative approach (and often less expensive) in treating your tooth.
Scaling and polishing is usually also done at this visit, where plaque and tartar buildup is removed professionally and thoroughly.
Topical fluoride is typically applied as a final step to help prevent future decay, and you’re all done!

Frequently Asked Questions
Explore the FAQs that we often answer, if you have any queries!
Why Is It Necessary For 6-Monthly Checkup?
To maintain an optimal level of dental health, many dental experts recommend a dental checkup every 6 months, when our dentists can carry out a thorough dental check for any decay or dental problems and also proceed to give your teeth a good clean all around!
What Will Be Done During The Checkup?
Generally, a 6-monthly dental checkup includes the dentist looking your teeth to ensure there are no visible issues, then we move on to scaling & polishing, applying topical fluoride, and also a consultative chat. Dental X-rays are often done too, especially if there’s any issue that’s not visible to the naked eye.
How Long Does A Dental Checkup Take?
Typically, a checkup lasts about 30-45 minutes, though this may be longer depending on the complexity of the dental issues we see on the spot.
How Much Does A Dental Checkup Cost?
A usual checkup is around the range of S$100 to S$160 (after GST). This depends on the complexity of the dental issues we see on the spot. Of course, many subsidies are available.
What Are The Criteria For The Various Government Subsidies?
The subsidies are often subject to change by the government. We strongly advise you to call either of our clinics for a more accurate estimate.
What Is Scaling & Polishing?
Polishing involves removing any surface stains (e.g. from coffee or smoking) to make your teeth look brighter and smoother in appearance.
What Is Topical Fluoride?
Fluoride is applied on the tooth surface to prevent tooth decay. After scaling & polishing, the dentist will apply the fluoride gel on your teeth for about a minute. This will help prevent future tooth decays!
What Is The Consultation For?
After the dental treatment, the dentist will have a light-hearted chat with you, focusing on any dental concerns you have. This is your time to share anything that’s bugging your teeth. We will also share any issues that we spot during the session and give you the relevant advice.
